Biography

Peter Beyer was born in 1963 in Bremen, Germany. From 1982 to 1991, he studied at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart. He studied piano under Prof. Lieselotte Gierth and Prof. Gerd Lohmeyer, music theory under Prof. Heinrich Deppert and composition under Prof. Helmut Lachenmann. After completing his studies, he continued intensive activities as pianist and composer. He appeared both in Germany and abroad and participated in Radio and TV recordings. He received several awards including the Young Performer's Award from the Southwest German Broadcasting Corporation, the Scolarship of the Art Foundation of Baden-Württemberg and the Stuttgart Composition Award. His compositional study lead him to Statistical Composition Technique. Further, he has attempted to realize aesthetics of unsharpness in his recent works. Besides piano pieces, such as the four-piece piano-cycle „Schleichwege“, he has composed diverse chamber music, for example „Enthüllung“ for guitar quartet, works for choir, works for choir and orchestra, such as „Ein Bußgebet in Todesnot“ and works for orchestra, for example „Fließendloslösenderfolgenausbreitung“.      In addition, he has written intensively about Karlheinz Stockhausen's „Gruppen für drei Orchester“. Since 1986 he has taught at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Trossingen and became a full-time faculty in Music Theory, Composition and Ear Training in 1996.
